fundraising

We are currently fundraising for our international fund which helps support scouts participate in adventures abroad, meeting scouts across the world and supporting communities across the world.

Over the past few years our scouts have had opportunities to travel to Kenya to assist building a school, Sweden to take part in the 22nd World Scout Jamboree, France to pay their respects at the war memorial in Normandy and learn about those who fought for their freedom and Kandersteg to be part of the international scouting community.

In 2015 there will be two opportunities for our young people. The first is the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan for those between 14 and 18. The UK contingent fee for attending includes a contribution to the solidarity fund which also supports scouts from developing countries to attend the Jamboree. As part of the event scouts will visit the Hiroshima memorial gardens as well participating in a community service project in the district. The second is the International Jamborette in Haarlem, Netherlands for those aged 11-14.

We have a proud tradition at 8th South Leeds (Carlton) scout group of putting our whole group support behind these international trips and helping to raise funds.

So how can you help?

By supporting our Fundraising events….

Tuck shops – Emily and Taylor have been running Tuck Shops at various camps and district events. Our next planned tuck shop is at the Tour de Phoenix camp after tea and on the Sunday AGM. Fundraising has never tasted so good.

20th July Bag packingMorrisons Rothwell

Please let us know when you can come and support so we can plan for the day. You can come for a few hours or stay the whole day ( bring lunch). Please arrive in Uniform and report to a Leader on arrival. Beavers will bag pack with an adult or young leader, so please don’t think they are too young to help. If you are not a scout, cub or beaver, but belong to one and can stay for a bit, we can loan you a necker.

Update: The Group raised just shy of £1,300 pounds for their Bag Packing efforts at Morrisons!!

Unit Badges – Each unit attending the Jamboree designs its own badge, since we are supporting 2 units, 51 and 69 we have access to 2 unique designs that you can buy and add to your camp blanket. The first is unit 51, Unitea, which is available now for £2 with the second due unit badge, Unit 69, due to become available in the Autumn.

Don’t have a camp blanket? – see a leader for information on camp blankets and how you can use them to create a lasting and useful record of your adventures in scouting!

Thank you – To all those that supported our stall at Rubarbfest in Carlton. Whether you made cakes, donated for the tombola, tried out some craft, put up or took down the marquee or simply bought something. You made the day a big success and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Matched fundraising -Do you have access to matched fundraising through your work? If so you may be able to make one of our fundraising events even more successful. Please let Chil, Goshawk, Ziggy (aka Akela), or Green Beaver know if you have access to matched fundraising.
