First night back after school holidays is always a noisy boisterous mix of excitement, with lots of chattering and swapping of stories.
Tonight was no exception with lots of interesting catch ups and mention of holidays both near and far and days out with family and friends.
Tonights focus was on Fair trade because we are in Fair trade fortnight.
A short film was shown to highlight the struggles, the lives and and the futures of the families who are involved in Fair trade production and how this has improved their lives.

It was a quiet night in Carlton Scout Group Cub pack tonight, a local primary school were having a Valentines Disco so only 18 cubs attended our meeting. We started the evening with a few games of Chinese Whispers and lots of giggling took place. Ben S provided feedback afterwards “somehow it turned from ‘hula hoops to Postman Pat’, and then we did ‘I go to bed early’ but that was soon changed to I hate to go to bed early”

Cub Scout Leader, Ziggy, gained his Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Inland Waterways Helmsman’s Certificate on the “Jubilee Venture” Scout Narrowboat, Sunday 8th February.
This was the culmination of several all-day training sessions on the boat with the excellent training crew and other Scouters interested in gaining their RYA Certificate and Scouting Outdoor Activities (Narrowboat) Permit.
Ziggy is now just waiting for his Scouting Permit to be signed off then we can arrange some trips on the boat! 🙂

8th Carlton Beavers, Cubs and Scouts took part in the South Leeds and Morley District Swimming Gala at the John Charles Center for Sport on Saturday, 7th February.
Cubs put two teams forward…

Team (A) “Sharks” were Thomas W, Louie F and Harry A.
Team (B) “Dolphins” were Imogen S, Abi R, Henry U and Harry A

… and Alex H came in 3rd for Cubs – well done Alex!

And the 8th Carlton Scout Troop fielded one team at this event – Dan N, Joe R, Joseph B, Josh S and Callum H

The Cubs finished and were awarded their  Communicator Badge tonight – well done! We’d been working towards this badge over a few weeks – had originally hoped to get it done in two, but it went into three 🙂 See:

22nd Jan: Attempting to communicate again

To finish the Communicator badge tonight, the Cubs had opportunity to try Semaphore and Morse Code. But first we had a quick “blow out” and played a game of “tummy football” which the Cubs enjoy (I think)
