Cub Contract, points and games

29 January 2015

Agency-demand-for-new-contract-with-non-rent-paying-tenantTonight at Cubs we started by reviewing and signing the updated Cubs Contract. This is not really something new, but rather something we’ve just let lapse recently – we had assued all the Cubs had signed up to it, but after we did a quick “hands up”… well very few hands went up!

The Cubs read through the Contract and then signed it… we had their parents sign it also when they came to pick them up. As Akela, I will be counter-signing the same this week, laminating them and then returning them to each Cub at our next meeting.

reward-pointsNext we introduced the Cubs to a points system whereby they can earn points… or lose them! See: the Cubs points page for more info… Hopefully at the end of the term we will look to give the Six with the most points a treat (as the Cubs Contract says).

The points idea seemed to go down reasonably well – especially once we started awarding points for winners of games! 🙂

Now we get into the fun bit… which we didn’t get any photos of for a change!

With the snow fall we’d had earlier in the day, many of the Cubs were keen to go outside and play. So those that brought snow gear got well wrapped up and we took them down to Millennium Green for a “blow out”. The remaining Cubs stayed inside the nice, warm church and played the 4 Cub Chair game… another popular activity 🙂

When the outside group came back in (it didn’t take too long… it was VERY cold outside!), we finished the evening off with the “Sticky Hat” game. Another idea from easierscouting.com – one Cub from each Six puts a hat on covered in sticky tape (we used Gaffer tape!). Raksha had strategically placed sets of different items around the hall (dominos, dice, pens, candles, etc). Another leader then calls out one of the list of objects and the rest of the Cubs have to run, grab ONE of the objects and race back to their cub with the Sticky Hat and put it on their head. Another fun energetic game… !

Awards: Elliot F made a small presentation to Oo and Raksha during the evening in order to complete the requirements for several of his badges – Camper, Outdoor Challenge and Global Challenge! He should get these badges award at his next meeting, along with his Nights Away 5 Staged Activity Badge which he should have had already, but was missed out – sorry! Well done for earning all these badges, Elliot.
