Cubs learn about Remembrance Day

6 November 2014

LestWeForgetThis Thursday, the first meeting of the Winter Term, at Cubs we had two visitors come talk to us about Remembrance Day, and Scouting during the War.

First, however we started by investing two Cubs who had completed their Moving On from Beavers, Abi and Alex

… followed by the presentation of TWO Chief Scout’s Silver Awards by the Group Scout Leader to Dan and Joe

George, a member of the British Legion and the Grandfather of one of our Young Leaders held a great Q&A session with the Cub Pack and Scout Troop about Remembrance Day and the Wars.

Before our next guest came, we played a game with the Cubs to burn off some of their restless energy and so they weren’t just sat on the floor all evening!

Then our next guest, David Hector, made a presentation of Scout History and Scouting during the War

and then, at the end of evening David introduced a game of “Ships” whereby he called out Ship directions such as “Forward, Aft, Port, Starboard, amidships…. then torpedoes! and Man Overboard”… The Cubs and Scouts played this with great enthusiasm!

Awards: There was one badge to give out tonight, but unfortunately the Cub who had earned it wasn’t here so I’ll try and award it at the next meeting.
