Pack Forum and dodgeball
Tonight at Cubs we had a Pack Forum – after which the Cubs took on the Scouts at Dodgeball!
The Pack Forum is where the Cubs, in their Sixes talk about what they’d like to do in Cubs, what they’d like to do more of or, indeed, what they’d like to do less of 🙂
We put out four tables and a large sheet of paper and had the Cubs brainstorm ideas.
 Â
We also wanted them to think about maybe a rewards system which we, as Leaders, can use to encourage good behaviour in the Pack  We’ve taken away these brainstorming sheets with a great list of ideas on to take a look at and see what the Cubs have come up with!
We also used the Cubs Powerpack book which all Cubs get when they are invested in the Pack, and some laptops in order to access the Badges section on the Scout members website to discuss badges that the Cubs might like to pursue themselves. Some, who had pets at home where interested in the Animal Carer badge. Others like the look of the Air Activities badge.
The Balanced Programme that the Cub Leaders try to put together and deliver each term, focus’s largely around the 6 Challenge Badges that a Cub needs to earn in order to be awarded their Chief Scout’s Silver Award. As part of the Programme Cubs may earn Activity badges as sub-parts of a Challenge Badge.
However Cubs are also encouraged to work on Activity and Staged Activity badges that interest them outside of our Thursday evening meetings. Maybe things the’ve done at school will go towards a particular badge requirements? Oor maybe other activites and clubs that the Cubs take part in will also fulfill some requirements?
One really good example of this is Dan N’s cricket… he brought his cricket gear to show to the Pack and talk about how he’s Done his best in cricket now that he’s started playing with a hardball and the differences that that brings including wearing lots of protective gear. This presentation helped Dan to complete his Fitness Challenge badge requirements.
After the Pack Forum, the Cubs took on the Scouts at Dodgeball – a very popular game between the Cubs and Scouts! It was a very entertaining match with both Cubs and Scouts winning a game, but then the Scout Troop taking the final round. Well done Scouts… you won… this time! 🙂
Awards: Elliot F received his Artist badge; Joe R and Dan N received their final Challenge badges – Global Challenge for Joe and Fitness Challenge for Dan. These now complete their set of badges needed to earn their Chief Scout’s Silver Award which they will be being presented with on the first meeting back after half term, November 6th.
