Summer Term – Water Aid and Toilet Twinning
During the Summer Term, the Cubs, for their Global Challenge Badge, learned about two charities – The Water Aid Charity and Toilet Twinning! The Water Aid charity the Cubs learned about whilst half the Pack was visiting the West Yorkshire Police in Wakefield and we did a couple of evenings and some fundraising to TWIN our Toilet at Church 🙂 We’ve recorded requirements (2) and (5) of the Global Challenge badge aginst the Cubs that were present on these evenings for this.
Autumn Term – Japan Jamboree
In the Autumn Term, as we have TWO members of our Group lined up to go to the World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015, we asked them to do an evening for the Cubs about Japan and the Jamboree. You can read about that in my blog entry here: Japan Jamboree Night. The Cubs who were present at this meeting have had requirement ticked off on their badge record for the Global Challenge:
Autumn / Winter Term – Learning about the Netherlands
To cover the remaining, fourth, requirement for several Cubs, We decided to look at The Netherlands because we have a few Cubs who are about to Move On to Scouts who are going to a Jamborette in Haarlem next year! We covered some of what we wanted to do in order to tick this section (1) off for the Cubs last term (see: Haarlem and Unihoc). However I wanted to give the Cubs just that little bit more – this IS a CHALLENGE badge after all 🙂
A short task to complete this requirement…
So, at the end of the last meeting (the last one of the Autumn Term), I gave each Cub a laminated card, randomly selected from one four categories (all relating to Holland / The Netherlands) – see attached PDFs…
This task should only take a few minutes to complete! Over the next two weeks, before Thursday 13th November, I would like you (Cubs!) to add a Comment to this page with the answer to your question (i.e….. at co-ordinates x and y there is….; the picture on my card was of so and so). I would then like you to find out one other fact about Holland for presentation / discussion in the Pack on the 13th November!
I compiled the questions on the cards by using Google… of course! So the answers are to be found easily… remember they’re all related to Holland / The Netherlands! If you got a card with co-ordinates in… just put those numbers, exactly as they are on the card into Google Search… it should show you a map which you can then just zoom in an out on, change to Satellite view, etc to see what you’re looking at!
Let me know if you have any questions – otherwise I look forward to seeing your answers… and handing out a badge to those Cubs who have completed four requirements of the Global Challenge badge!
