Church Parade and Remembrance Day

27 October 2014

Hi All,

Just a quick reminder that we do not meet in school holidays … so there is no meeting during half-term holidays next week (30th Oct)

That does mean we need to give advance warning of two forthcoming parades:

  • Church Parade is the first Sunday of every month (except August). The next one is therefore 2nd November – 9:15am at Christ Church, Lofthouse.
I hope to see lots of you there – smart uniform , ready to carry flags and be proud to be Scouts!
I also have some Readings to give out. If you’d like to do a reading -please get in touch and I will tell you what they are.
Church Parade is a family service – a good opportunity to bring friends and family to see you parade our flags.

  • Sunday 9th is Remembrance Day Parade – this is one of the two parades each year that you should think of as part of your ‘contract’ with Scouts. (The other is for our Patron Saint – St George).
Remembrance is about thinking how horrible war is, so we try harder never to have to do it again. It is also about thanking those who gave, or risked, their lives so that we can live in freedom.
It is important that we meet in Salute car park in Rothwell at 1015 (or in Holy Trinity Church for the service at 9am) in full, smart uniform (school trousers/skirt and shoes). Wear something underneath to keep warm – coats only if it is raining really hard.
After drinks and biscuits we also meet at Robin Hood Cenotaph at 12:15 (Next to Pizza Max) to lay poppies for everyone named on that memorial.

Please be sure to attend one, or both, Remembrance Events.

Your in Scouting,
