Second group of Cubs visit West Yorkshire Police CarrGate HQ

5 June 2014

Our other two Cub “Sixes“, Red and Green went on the visit to the Police CarrGate HQ yesterday evening (Yellow and Blue sixes having visited on the 15th May)

Again it looks like the Police horses were a great hit with the Cubs 🙂

Akela who went on the visit with this group of cubs said:

No armed police all out on duty so we didnt get to see real guns. Plastic bullet still passed around though and the cubs winced at the fact that they are aimed at the groin area ;(

Had fun with the horses and Connor was brought out in the yard. Flags flying dummies strategically placed with riot guards and music playing really loud as part of the horses tour de france training. The cubs were encouraged to make as much noise as they liked too to help in the process.
Helicopter was the higlight along with a confiscated black Ferrari in the yard £200,000 is that right.Akela

Myself and the group who stayed at the Church learned about the WaterAid Charity presented very well by our Group Scout Leader, Chil. The Cubs got quite engaged with this, especially when hearing about people, women in 3rd World Countries who may have to walk 5 miles to get clean water…. and then walk 5 miles back again with 20liters of water (on their head!).

Chil demonstrated this briliiantly by filling a large container with just 10 liters of water… then getting the Cubs to carry this down the hall. Many of them struggled with this amount of water so it demonstrated this aspect of the presentation perfectly!

The Scout section then joined us and, after talking to the combined group about what today was all about, the plan was to watch one of the BBC’s D-Day 70 Episodes – The Heroes Remember – commemorating the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. However technology wasn’t on our side and the video kept buffering so we struggled to watch it.
