Oo's Blog!

Cubs and Scouts have a great evening… shame the same can’t be said for England!

19 June 2014

The 8th Carlton Cub Pack and Scout Troop joined forces last night to have a great #iscout evening on Millennium Green!

WorldCup2014BrazilWith the England World Cup 2014 match due to kick off part way through our usual Thursday night meeting we expected to have slightly lower than usual numbers as some Cubs opted to watch the match.

We try to get outside whenever the weather is good (and even sometimes when its not!) so last night after keeping our routine and opening in the Church we then quickly made our way over the motorway bridge next to the Church and into the nearby Millennium Green.

Silverpoint FiresteelOn the green, with the Scout Troop, we split into 4 groups witheach group practising a different activity – there was tent erecting (and taking down!); fire lighting using tinder and a match with one of the Asst. Scout Leaders, Nighthawk; creating a spark with Firesteel with Asst. Cub Scout Leader, Bagheera;

and putting up a patrol shelter with Scout Leader, Goshawk!Vango Equinox 350 Tent

Each group had 20 minutes ish on each activity and then rotated round to the next one.

 Because we had lots of leaders down supporting this evening (and a couple of parents – thank you!) we were also able to tidy up some of the rubbish and broken glass than was unfortunately blighting what could otherwise be a beautiful Green and community space! Its a shame that this area has suffered from thoughtlessness and vandalism by a small few who are spoiling it for others.

Afterwards, back at Christ Church, we just had time for each Cub to take a free kick at an inflatable goal that I set up as a nod to the World Cup.

After taking their shot, each Cub went inside to get a drink and then make their way back into “horseshoe” for closing. Akela was with us tonight and handed out some badges!

Awards: Joe R received his Promise Challenge Badge; Ewan S and Oliver D got their Hikes Away 1 Staged Activity Badge; James D, Jacob H and Joe R earned their Nights Away 5 Staged Activity Badge. – Very well done, Cubs!

Last but by no means least… one of our newest Assistant Cub Scout Leaders, “Keego” was presented with her official name badge 🙂
