It was a cool but bright morning as we arrived at Phoenix Camp Site in Morley, Leeds.
We had ordered sunshine for the weekend and were not disappointed as it rapidly started to warm up and dry out the frost from the night before.
All twelve cubs from 8th Carlton arrived and were shown to their accommodation, familiarised with the camp layout and then allowed a little free time to run off the excess energy and to catch up with other friends from the district.
In total 109 cubs from across the South Leeds and Morley District attended with numerous Leaders, helpers and parents to facilitate the planned activities.
Nine activities had been carefully planned including Bouldering, Archery, Low Ropes, Tree Climbing, Treasure Hunting and Arts & Crafts.
All Cubs received a sticker on completion of each task and were working towards completing their ‘Jedi Training’
Lunch was a pack up from home and judging by the contents of many lunch boxes, parents expected their children to be really hungry and had packed them up for the whole weekend!
More activities followed lunch and a calm but busy afternoon passed quickly with lots of laughter, smiles and new friendships being made.
It was dinnertime and Pizza was on the menu, huge 16″ pizzas with various toppings and approx 50 of them in total. The children’s eyes were wide with excitement at the sight of so many pizza’s!
After dinner was an opportunity to play, dress up in the fantastic costumes brought from home and then we all sat round the camp fire and sang traditional (Scouting) camp fire songs.
Supper was then served and Hotdogs were popular before the children all dashed off to brush their teeth and have a wash ready for bed (honestly, well one or two did!)
After a good nights sleep (albeit shorter than normal) they rose at 5.30am to race around the campsite having Lightsaber jousting fights and other such fun.
Breakfast was cereals, bacon, sausage, scrambled egg and beans which set them up nicely to continue with their training quest.
By lunchtime all cubs had done their best to complete the training and were rewarded with Toasties cooked on the open fire, chocolate biscuits and fruits.
After lunch ‘free play’ time was announced and whoops of delight were heard all over camp as the children headed off to have fun.
As parents started to arrive to collect their fully trained Jedi’s all cubs assembled for the District Commissioner to announce the results… Everyone passed and was now a fully trained Jedi Warrior!!
There’s more photos over on Flickr and Phoenix Campsite’s May 4th Album.
… can you find yourself in them? 🙂
So did your cub attend and enjoy the camp?
What were their thoughts afterwards?
Please share them with us in the Comments below!, thank you 🙂
P.S. The 12 Cubs from the 8th Carlton Scoutgroup who went on this visit – some have earned new badges and some have earned credits towards others! Oh – and you’ll all get a coveted Phoenix Campsite badge for your camp blanket!
Well done everyone
Henry had a brilliant time.
Thank you to all the leaders who gave up their time and sleep xx
Thanks all – Daniel had an absolute blast – totally shattered by the end!
Thank you – Sammy has a fantastic time, and has already asked about next years camp! Will you have caught up on your sleep by then?
Aways great to receive feedback and even more so when its positive. The leaders had as much fun as the cubs and to hear your praise on behalf of the cubs is fantastic. Without everyone pulling together to support these events including those in the background we couldn’t make it happen.
[…] main theme of the evening was talking about the Cubs’s experiences from the District Star Wars Camp the previous weekend. To this end I setup a projector and did a slide show of photos that Leaders […]
