St George’s – do YOU know your Cub Promise and Law?

24 April 2014

This Thursday, the first meeting back after at Cubs it was a St George’s-themed evening as it was St George’s Day the day before, 23rd April (and we also found out it is Shakespear’s Birthday!) and in preperation for St George’s activities and Parade at the weekend. You can the Cubs taking part in the Parade here 🙂

After our opening ceremony as normal, we talked briefly about what the Cubs had got up to over the 2 week Easter Holidays.  Jacob H talked to us about his visit to London for 3 days during which he saw the new Lion King Theatre show, visited museum’s and then, on his return also saw the Charlie and Choolcate Factory show! Busy time but interesting trip, Jacob!

As it was a nice evening, we then got the Cubs outside for some exercise to burn off some energy by doing some laps of the Church 🙂

Upon returning inside, we had setup a project to show the Cubs this video of the St George and the Dragon story… told in Lego – brilliant idea!

Following this, Sara “Oo” took the cubs through decorating St George’s Day biscuits (that she had made earlier). The Cubs excellent efforts are shown in the slideshow below 🙂

After decorating the biscuits, Ziggy then took the Cubs through their Promise and Law in preparation for the St George’s Day Parade on Sunday when everyone would be repeating it in front of the crowd come to watch the parade 🙂

Lastly, using some resources from the Scout Association, Programmes Online, we took the Cubs through some short sketches about St George and the Dragon which they quite enjoyed.

Awards: Akela had Ziggy hand out several badges for the first time, this week! Anyone else think Akela is planning for her retirement??! Anyway… the badges that were awarded this week included Sports Enthusiast to Louis M; Entertainer to Sam E; Chef to James D; Skater to Dan N; Artist and 1 Year badge to Joe R; Chef and 3 Year badge to James A; Grace K got her 1 Year badge and Henry U his 2 Year badge. Great work, everyone!

Additionally, James A was promoted to Seconder and Henry M prompted to Sixer – well done both!
