Construction starts on ‘Camp Carlton’

27 March 2014

The session on the 20th of March saw the start of a new project – ‘Camp Carlton’. Camp Carlton is going to be our working model of a camp site so that all the scout group at 8th South Leeds can learn about how a camp functions.

Tonights session focused on gathering ideas about what a typical camp site contains and what models we should build to use in ‘Camp Carlton’. The scouts made a list and then noted some ideas on what materials could be used to create the models. They then split into teams and made some drawings on how they would lay out a campsite. We then discussed the various layouts and commented on both the good aspects of the design and the bits that we might want to change. We had two main designs to discuss and both had some very good elements to the design.

Once we had got our list of models and some ideas on possible layouts we then looked at how we would construct our campsite (for detailed information on the actual construction of the camp site see the related project page for ‘Camp Carlton‘). The scouts then got they’re hands firmly in a big bucket of wall paper paste and had a play with making a paper mache landscape which was formed with Chicken wire.

The evening was a good start to a project that will take the scouts a few sessions to complete. The end result will hopefully produce a training aid that all the scout group can use so we can ‘camp’ all year round!

That’s all for now….
