The Chinese New Year (Year of the Horse)

30 January 2014

This week Dizzy, one of our awesome Young Leaders with the Cub Pack, taught the Cubs about the Chinese New Year – this being the Year of the Horse!

The Cubs learn’t facts in a Q&A session about the Chinese New Year such as that it is a Very old ceremony and it starts on a full moon in late January or early February. It follows a cycle made up of 12 years – each of them named after an animal as shown below. There was a lot of discussion and paricularly humor as Dizzy talked to the Cubs about the belief some people had that people born in year corresponding to a certain animal are said to have characteristics of that animal! What do you think? 🙂

Afterwards they made Chinese Lanterns in a “messy” craft session!

Awards: Joe R was awarded THREE badges at this meeting! He got his Book Reader, Skating and Camper badges. Jacob H talked to Akela about making his parents tea before coming down to Cubs and in doing so completed the final section needed to earn his Chef badge (to be awarded next meeting).  Well done Joe and Jacob!

Breaking News (31/01/2014) – Henry U’s Mum has just submitted this collage of photos below of him making tea for his family on Friday night. Fantastic work Henry!
